When Michael’s not writing songs, in concert , or promoting his work, he does what any true Canadian does – he watches hockey. When the opportunity came up to write Canada’s Next Great Hockey song, he jumped at it.

A few months previous to the competition being announced, “Woah! Can We Do That Again?”  was born on a warm LA evening, while Michael was live streaming a rant by Don Cherry about hockey being a battle and how it takes all of a player’s energy, strength, and endurance they  have inside of them in order to win each second of a game. With that in mind, Michael channeled one of his favourite parts of the game – the fans chanting in unison.  He envisioned a song hook that could easily be picked up by 18,000 people at the same time … unifying the fans for 1 common goal: to cheer their team on.

It was serendipity’s gracious hand that put this competition into his twitter feed 6 months later, and with the inspiration of the song stemming from a true hockey experience, he submitted it immediately.
